If you were to pick up Martha Stewart Living Magazine this month you could expect to find some DIY projects, decor ideas, meal recipes, and a two page spread on…Detroit?! That’s right! Detroit’s Corktown hood made it into the September issue of the magazine, being touted as the heart of Detroit’s restoration.
Meghan McEwen, owner of the stylish Inn Honor and Folly and writer of the blog Designtripper, showed the writer around so we’re rest assured that she received a hearty dose of Detroit’s finest from a proud local. Among some of the places featured in the spread are Mudgie’s Deli, Green Dot Stables, Le Petit Zinc, Astro Coffee and John K. King Used and Rare Books, and the writer had nothing but positive things say.
Astro Coffee is praised for its “mean latte” and baked goods, while Le Petite Zinc is said to have a “peaceful, picturesque” courtyard and garden. The piece paints Detroit in a positive light to Martha readers, showcasing it as a great place to visit in contrast to the poverty and crime-ridden place that is often depicted in national media. Way to go Martha and crew for actually stepping foot in the city to gain a little perspective!
If you want to check it out, the piece can be found in the “Our Finds” section of the September issue.
