Hog Intestines. That’s what Cristin Richards will be contributing to the 1st Annual Michigan F.A.S.H. Fest. Richards takes on the depths of fashion with a sculptural stand point, blurring the divide between fine art and fashion. The hog intestines arise in their translucent array as her primary medium channeling both a “metaphorical language and historical depth.”
Richards will not be the only fashion designer showcased during the festival though—there will be a plethora of other designers with a multitude of events taking place. The Michigan F.A.S.H. Fest will be highlighted with a Runway Industry Showcase with a Tween-age fashion show to parallel. The runway stage will be surrounded by an “experiential” festival that will be showcasing the Michigan talents of F[ashion], A[rt], S[ound] and H[istory]. The talents include things such as public art, digital media, 3D food sculptures, culinary arts, puppetry, educational exhibits, hands-on activities and a history collaborative of era-strolling fashion. Music for the day will be provided by the likes of Sean Forbes, the Motor City Quintet and more.
The event was created by the Michigan-based, women-powered company, Presence II Productions. Founder and CEO, Leslie Ann Pilling has a two-part passion to enrich and strengthen the community. First she has partnered with local charity Forgotten Harvest and second she aims her work and dedication in the direction of boosting Michigan’s economic state.
The F.A.S.H. Fest is a three-part production, with the final stage coming up this Saturday, September 15. It was kicked off with an Annual Runway Industry Showcase Gala down Detroit’s Library street. The runway show was for buyers and fashion elite consumers with a designer trunk show to complete the night. The gala was followed up by the Reveal: Beauty and Trend Event VIP Preview at the Detroit Opera House. The night was to showcase the art of hair and makeup alongside couture costumes. If you missed the first two events be sure you catch the last one this weekend, Saturday, September 15, in Birmingham at Shain Park from 10am to 5pm.
F.A.S.H. Fest is a “fresh perspective to collaborate with grassroots pioneers, groundbreaking innovators and industry leaders;” it will capture your imagination, be a catalyst of inspiration and connect you with the art of the Detroit fashion world. Check it out this weekend and take a moment to be inspired, network and learn.
