Hatch Detroit, a non-profit organization dedicated to positively impacting Detroit retail, will announce its top 10 semi-finalists for the Comerica Hatch Detroit 2012 Contest today, August 29th, at 6:15PM EST. You’ll be able to see what business ideas were chosen by visiting hatchdetroit.com.
The Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest awards $50,000 to a winning business idea to help entrepreneurs and keep Detroit flourishing. Last year’s winner was Hugh, a home furnishings shop with “bachelor pad style”. It will open for business this fall in the Auburn Building in Midtown thanks to the contest money and donated services from individuals and companies.
The contest is in its second year. Last year the $50,000 was raised through donations from corporations, individuals and Hatch Detroit itself. This year, Comerica Bank has offered the entire $50,000 to go towards the winning idea. There were over 220 Applicants last year, and although they don’t have a number yet for this year, Hatch Detroit says that they had “many awesome submissions.”
On September 10th you can start voting on your favorite business to win the contest. This round of voting ends on September 14 and will determine the 4 finalists. You’ll then be able to meet the finalists at Hatch Off! on September 26 and place your final vote.
It’s a long wait with a lot of input, but once it’s over Detroit will have yet another new business to boast!
