If you’re loco for all things local, save the date Saturday, Aug. 25th. The Greening of Detroit needs your energy at its upcoming LIVE LOVE LOCAL Celebration.
Taking place Saturday, Aug. 25 in Shed 5 of The Eastern Market – a pretty popular gathering place of late! – the celebration will bring together foodies, farmers, environmentalists, chefs and supportive rabble rousers to honor Detroit’s efforts at being a more sustainable city.
Here’s the rundown: The Greening of Detroit is partnering with edibleWOW magazine to raise funds for The Greening’s environmental programs. For $25, attendees get four hours of culinary demonstrations by top area chefs, “farm to fork” discussions, plus tastings at 25 chef stations and two drink tickets. Some of Detroit’s most popular restaurants will be there, including Slow’s Bar-B-Q, Rattlesnake Club, Traffic Jam and Colors. Where else you can try chow from 25 different places in one spot? If you can get 10 hungry friends together, you’ll get tickets at a discounted price, too.
And for the first time, the organizations will acknowledge achievements in agriculture by giving a “Young Farmer of the Year” Award.
We know Eastern Market is already jam-packed on Saturdays with people buying locally grown produce and goods; organizers hope to feed off this energy and build excitement for healthy, local living. LIVE LOVE LOCAL runs from noon to 4 p.m., but you can also purchase tickets to a swanky pre-gala at ROAST Restaurant, owned by Food Network’s Iron Chef Michael Symons. There are also corporate sponsorship opportunities available.
The Greening of Detroit is a nonprofit established in 1989 to guide and inspire the reforestation of Detroit.
