For all of you Food Network foodies out there who love watching Iron Chef, Detroit is bringing its own cooking competition to Eastern Market. The Next Urban Chef will host a cooking competition featuring Detroit chefs and a their teams of high school students on September 15th.
This is The Next Urban Chef’s second ever event and is considered a food education project to get high school student’s learning about how food is grown, prepped and cooked. The competition aims to promote healthy eating and local food between the Detroit participants. Students led by professional chefs will cook a three course meal for a table of judges, using fresh and local ingredients.
The Next Urban Chef is aimed at helping up-and-coming Detroit chefs by pairing them with professionals. This year’s professional chefs are Andy Hollyday of Michael Symon’s Roast, Dave Mancini of Supino Pizzeria, Eric Giles of Sunday Dinner Company, and Will Branch of Corridor Sausage Co.
The final cookoff will be held at Eastern Market on September 15. The program is currently looking to raise $5,000 on IndieGoGo, If you would like to donate and make the Next Urban Chef 2012 better than 2011s event, you can do so here. The donation is tax deductible.
