“A lot of people around here live in apartments and rental houses, so keeping a car is difficult. It can be broken into. It can get stolen. It can be a burden to keep around if you don’t have a garage or a parking spot. They have to be insured. They’re expensive to fix. They’re expensive to buy. Cars as your transportation only make sense because of suburban sprawl, and the more we can move away from that, the happier we can become.” – Andy Didorosi
The city has several bus lines running constantly: The Smart Bus, The DDOT (Detroit Department of Transportation) Bus, and The Detroit Bus Company.
Detroit has become very bike friendly throughout the years. With places like The Hub where you can buy and fix bikes, and Wheelhouse Detroit, where you can rent and buy bikes, you can take care of all your biking needs within city limits.
You can always check Craigslist Detroit for reasonable listings from other Detroiters, or you can venture into Metro Detroit a little bit to Vespa of Dearborn.
If you have the balance to travel with either of these bad boys, you should check out Modern in Royal Oak, another bustling city within Metro Detroit.
It may take a little bit longer – but it’s GREAT exercise!
